I don't think the dems are even close to being certain about their move here. It was probably the only chess move to make or they would look weak. America is sick of all of it. I predict voter turnout will be low, which is always bad for democrats and good for republicans (because they always vote).

I think the overwhelming majority of moderate Democrats agree that it's time to move on. It all just screams of the much more left-leaning liberals pitching a fit.
